Faith in Action is a four-week, church-wide campaign that creates an outward focus and a heart to serve the congregation. FIA culminates in a Sunday where regular services are cancelled, and the entire congregation engages in service projects in and with the community.

“Bethany was considering closing its doors four years ago when attendance dropped dramatically,” said Pastor Robin Weinstein. “Now, four years later the Church is strong and growing. We are opening our hearts and hands to the community during this campaign. Bridgeton has a number of problems and God wants to use the churches as a catalyst for positive change.”

On Sunday, October 11, the Church will leave the building. Bethany Presbyterian Church is putting their faith into action by canceling their regular Sunday service to practice very purposeful acts of kindness throughout their community from 10:00 AM- 12:30 PM.

Volunteers from both the church and the community will be joining together to do a trash clean-up of Pearl Street, sell baked goods at local stores to benefit food banks, and host a “Yours for the Taking” Community Give-Away. A total of 3 work projects, some of them intergenerational, will be held over what is being called Faith in Action Sunday, bringing together community members from both within, and outside the church.

The “Yours for the Taking” Community Give-Away is a new spin on a community yard sale in that everything is given away for free…no questions asked. Those in need are welcome to come and get clothes, household items, furniture, and other goods. Donations will be accepted and go to a local food bank. “Yours for the Taking” will be held at the Church at 31 North Pearl Street.

“We invite the community to join us in not just going to Church, but being the Church,” said Pastor Weinstein. “If you would like to volunteer, provide baked goods, or donate something to the community give-away, please contact the Church office.”

Bethany Presbyterian Church is located at 31 North Pearl Street, Bridgeton, NJ. Worship services are held on Sunday at 11 AM with Sunday School at 9:45 AM.
