Purpose: To foster and improve civil discourse in our community.
Description: The forums will seek to inform participants on the different thought processes behind the other perspectives in these hot-topic issues. This is not about debating who is right and who is wrong, rather the forums are designed to stimulate listening and thinking.
Structure: The basic structure of each forum will allow for each panelist to present their informed opinion on the topic. The audience will be able to participate in asking questions through index cards that will be presented to the panelist by the moderator. At the conclusion of the forum, each panelist will give a closing statement. Tentative Schedule: The forums will be held on the second Thursday of the month in June, July, and August from 7-8:30 PM at Bethany Grace Community Church. The admission fee for the forum is a non-perishable food item to be distributed at the church’s food pantry program for the public. The forum is open to the public, but advance registration is required and seating is limited.
The topics of the summer forums are: “Gun Control” (June 14), “Immigration Policies” (July 12), and “Legalization of Marijuana” (August 9). The topics are subject to change.
