Call to Prayer and Fasting- February 4-8
Dear Church Family:
It is my prayer that this email finds you well. Members of our church family are going through a variety of trials on various fronts (physical, emotional, financial, etc.) and I am asking you to join me in prayer and fasting for our church family. While our church does so much for the community, we also need to take care of one another. There is no greater privilege and responsibility to pray for one another, while actively showing love and compassion.
So many things come in to our lives to distract us, and remove our attention away from the most important, or “needful” thing, which is a growing and deepening relationship with Christ. Luke 10:41-42 has this thought in the Lord’s encounter with Mary and Martha: 41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
In recognition of this, I want to take a moment to encourage you to join me in a time of fasting and prayer. We need God to move in our lives and church family!
While I won’t go over all the benefits of fasting in this brief letter, we realize that it is a practice that takes place throughout the Word of God, and even Jesus Himself fasted for 40 days in the wilderness before embarking upon His ministry.
There is a powerful scripture in Isaiah 58:6 that shares my heart on fasting, and it goes like this: “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?” Isn’t this what we need today? I say yes! We want to see the chains of injustice loosened, and the captive set free by the power of God!
With this in mind, I will be sharing a message on Prayer and Fasting this coming Sunday. We will also be sharing in the Lord’s supper. I encourage you to be here on this special day, and then let’s join together next week for fasting and prayer with a desire and passion for His presence.
Each day from February 4-8, I will be holding a 5-10 minute prayer for the members of our church, community, family, etc. from at 7 AM. Please join this call by dialing (856) 441-2380. I also encourage you to fast at some point next week, in whatever manner the Lord leads you.
